of Williamson, passed away on June 19, 2025 at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 14, 1940, to Rodney D. Van Meter and Esther (Williamson) Van Meter. Doyle graduated from Williamson High School in 1958 and Virginia Polytechnic Institute (now Virginia Tech), where he was a member of Pi Kappa, in 1963. He married Linda Jean Hatfield on November 29, 1963. He was a businessman and community leader in Williamson throughout his life. He operated Tri-State Welding and Williamson Television Companies, both businesses founded by his father. Doyle and Linda founded Sycamore Inn and The Brass Tree restaurant. Doyle served three terms in the West Virginia House of Delegates, representing Mingo County (13th District). He was a member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Williamson, where he was actively involved in Kiwanis' education programs. He was a founder of the Tug Valley Arts Council, a graduate of Leadership West Virginia, and a member of the West Virginia State Tourism Board. Doyle was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Williamson. He served on many committees and was chairman of the Board of Deacons several times. He was an avid train enthusiast, collecting model trains and traveling by train. He was involved in theater in high school, an avocation he resumed late in life. He enjoyed performing in characters including Randall McCoy. He was a Scrabble player and reader of newspapers. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hatfield Van Meter of Williamson; son Rodney and his wife, Mayumi Arai, of Kamakura, Japan, and their children Sophia Van Meter of Tokyo and Esther Van Meter of Tsukuba, Japan; daughter Sheila Rose and her children, Victoria Rose of Seattle and Lanty Rose of Hillsboro; daughter Lera Van Meter and her husband Mark Kelley, of Charleston; and his brother C. Gregory Van Meter and his wife Linda King Van Meter of Huntington. He was also loved by many other family members and friends. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. and funeral services will be at 3 p.m., on Sunday, June 22, at First Baptist Church in Williamson.
