"Semper Fi/ Always Faithful, Once a Marine always a Marine! Hoe truw for Steve. I remember Steve as a fun loving guy that studied more than most of us because he had a plan and vision for himslef; The US Marine Corp. Steve always offered a helping hand around the house and would give you the shirt of his back if you needed. He and Bob Paine were strange bed fellows. Steve on the far right and Bob on the far left of life and beliefs. They were good friends and perhaps their willingness to address their differences with each other is why they respected each other. They would debate and spar verbally with each other at the bar until the sun came up! Steve was tough and disciplined; Bob lazy and happy go lucky. God bless them both.

Steve joined the Marine Corp upon graduation, went to officer's candidate school, and started his career as a second lieutenant. He immediately colunteered for Vietnam and was assigned to a LERP (Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol) unit in Military Region I near the DMZ.

Steve was a Marine's Marine and made the rank of Captain faster than most others. He thrived on danger and fear. I suspect he accepted state side duty but did not like it. We believe that Steve was killed in action during a clandestine CIA operation overseas. If only his grave at Arlington could talk, it would have many a tale!

Yes, Steve was a bit crazy, a risk taker and liked living on the edge compared to most of the Brotherhood. That is why I liked him and I am honored to have shared a couple of years of his life from 67-69" - Mike Hammes, Winter '67 3/26/16
