Robert W. Washington III (known as Bobby) passed away on May 21, 1996 in Stafford County, Virginia at the age of 52. He was an insurance executive in his hometown of Fredericksburg, VA. The Richmond Times-Dispatch published a very brief obituary on Thursday, May 23, 1996.

Bobby entered Virginia Polytechnic Institute in the fall of 1962. Bobby pledged Pi Kappa in fall of 1964; his pledge brothers were Steve Corbett, Jim Flowers, and Owen Matthews. Bobby was the pledge master for the Spring 1966 pledge class. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Bobby was the son of Robert Wirt Washington Jr. and Eleanor Yates. He was born Jan. 12, 1944 in Macon, Georgia. He attended James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, VA and graduated with the class of 1962. Bobby married Sharon Kay Atkinson on Sept. 7, 1968. He is survived by his wife Sharon A. Washington (now Sharon A. Kohler) and three children: Kathryn (b 1970), Elenor (b 1971), and Robert W. Washington IV (b 1975). His wife Sharon graduated from James Monroe H. S. in the class of 1965; she visited Pi Kappa for Theme Party in 1966 as shown in the photo below.

Bobby's ancestors were early settlers in Virginia. John Washington settled in Westmoreland County in 1657. He is a descendent of the "presidential line" of the Washingtons (e.g. President George Washington). Bobby was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Fredericksburg.
